Mrs Fiteni-Gibson

Chief Instructor, IV Degree

Phoenix Martial Arts was founded in 2021 by Chief Instructor Laura Fiteni-Gibson.

Mrs Fiteni-Gibson is a IV degree Taekwon-do blackbelt and internationally-qualified instructor, a II degree Kickboxer and a fully-qualified high school teacher with over 10 years of coaching under her belt (pun intended!) She started her Taekwondo journey as a teenager in 2007 and hasn't looked back since.

Having achieved 4 x UK champion, in 2019 Mrs Fiteni-Gibson became the Microweight European Champion in Sparring and a European Silver medallist in III Degree Patterns. Having had the privilege of medalling at the 2018 World Championships, 2019 European Championships and representing Team Wales at the 2021 European Championships, there's no shortage of competition experience to go around.

Although still keen to compete when she can, Mrs FG is now focusing on passing her knowledge on to her students and coaching the next generation to future success.

Mr Fiteni-Gibson

Assistant Coach, I Degree

Having started his martial arts journey in 2010 at university, Mr Fiteni-Gibson had practiced kickboxing in many clubs until finally finding a home in Cardiff. Having that consistent place to train allowed him to work his way through the belt system and is currently a I Degree black belt.

After meeting Mrs Fiteni-Gibson in 2016 he also took up Taekwon-Do, under her instruction, and achieved his I Degree black belt in his second discipline in 2022.

Mr FG loves to analyse fight footage and absorb as many tips and techniques as he can. He has travelled with Mrs FG to many international tournaments, as a spectator and a sparring partner, and has been able to study some of the best in the world and hopes to be able to share that with future competitors.

As a Taekwon-Do colour belt Mr FG has won 4 sparring gold medals and 3 patterns gold medals at the British National Championships and hopes to one day compete alongside Mrs Fiteni-Gibson internationally.
